Title: Assistive technologies, including orthotic devices, for the management of contractures in adults after a stroke

Good to know: The evidence regarding the effect of assistive technologies (electrical stimulation) compared to routine care on passive range of motion of wrist extension without or with standardized force is very uncertain. The certainty of the evidence regarding the effect of a device with electrical stimulation compared to standard care on passive range of motion of shoulder flexion and elbow extension with standardized force is also very low.

Limitations: Lack of information on possible harms.

Evidence: Cochrane Review (publication in September 2024); inclusion of seven studies with 252 participants; comparison between assistive technologies with routine care, no treatment or another assistive technology with the aim of evaluating effects of assistive technologies for the treatment of contractures in adults after stroke.
